Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets out the steps taken by Hackney Movers to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery does not occur.
Hackney Movers operates in the removals and logistics sector, working with a range of suppliers including vehicle providers, equipment suppliers, facilities services, and labour agencies. We recognise that certain parts of the logistics and labour supply chain can present a higher risk of labour exploitation, and we take these risks seriously.
Zero-Tolerance Approach
Hackney Movers has a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and exploitation. This applies to our own operations and to all parties with whom we conduct business, including suppliers, contractors, and other business partners.
We expect everyone working for or with Hackney Movers to share this commitment. Any allegation or suspicion of modern slavery connected to our business will be treated as a serious matter and will be investigated promptly. Where appropriate, relationships with individuals or organisations found to be involved in modern slavery will be terminated, and necessary steps will be taken to support affected individuals and notify relevant authorities where applicable.
Responsible Procurement and Supplier Standards
We are committed to working only with suppliers and contractors who uphold human rights and decent working conditions. Our procurement processes are designed to identify and manage risks of modern slavery by considering labour practices, working conditions, and the use of subcontractors.
Suppliers are required to comply with all applicable labour, employment, and human rights laws. We expect them to ensure that people working within their own supply chains are employed freely, are of legal working age, and work under conditions that meet or exceed legal and industry standards.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
To support our zero-tolerance approach, Hackney Movers uses a risk-based system of supplier checks and audits. Higher-risk suppliers, such as those providing temporary labour or operating in sectors or locations with known risks of exploitation, are subject to enhanced scrutiny.
Our supplier audits may include reviewing employment records, verifying right-to-work documentation, assessing recruitment practices, and, where appropriate, conducting site visits or interviews with workers. Where concerns are identified, we work with suppliers to put corrective actions in place within a clear timetable. If a supplier is unwilling or unable to meet our standards, we will consider ending the relationship.
Awareness, Training, and Reporting Channels
Hackney Movers promotes awareness of modern slavery among employees, particularly managers and staff involved in recruitment, procurement, and supplier management. Training and guidance are provided so that colleagues can recognise warning signs of exploitation, understand our policies, and know how to respond.
We encourage anyone connected with Hackney Movers, including employees, agency workers, suppliers, and contractors, to report any concerns or suspicions of modern slavery. Reports can be made confidentially through internal reporting lines or directly to senior management. All concerns will be taken seriously, handled sensitively, and investigated where appropriate. No one raising a concern in good faith will suffer any detrimental treatment as a result of speaking up.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
Hackney Movers is committed to continually improving our approach to identifying and addressing the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking. We review our policies, procedures, and risk assessments regularly to reflect evolving best practice, legal developments, and the changing nature of our operations and supply chains.
This statement is reviewed at least annually by senior management. As part of this review, we consider the effectiveness of our supplier audits, any reports or incidents raised, feedback from colleagues and partners, and opportunities to strengthen our controls and training. Updated statements will reflect the steps we have taken and the progress we have made in the previous year.
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement has been approved by the management of Hackney Movers and represents our ongoing commitment to playing our part in eliminating modern slavery in all its forms.
